LTS Free DDNS makes Port Forwarding Simple!

cropped-YoutubeBanner_Square1.jpgThis blog is intended

to help set up

port forwarding

on your LTS IP surveillance system.

No Static? No Problem! IP solutions

 CMIP3412,3432What is an IP Camera?

An Internet Protocol (IP) Camera is a type of digital video camera that sends and receives data through an internet or network connection.

IP Benefits

  • High Res- IP cameras can record objects in fast motion with high resolution accuracy and playback, opposed to analog which is prone to producing blurred images when recording fast motion. This is highly beneficial when inspecting footage for investigations purposes or gathering details during playback.
  •  Intelligence- IP cameras are built with processors on board, which reduces workload on the NVRs. This allows IP cameras while recording to analyze data in real-time and transmit alerts of suspicious activity. IP systems are also integrative with home alarm equipment.
  •  Global Remote Access- NVR can be accessed from anywhere on the planet once port forwarding has been properly configured.

Port forwarding  benefits?

NVRs use an IP address to communicate. Once port forwarding is setup the NVR can be accessible to view anywhere in the world as well as doing many other functions remotely such as playback, backup and NVR configuration. It is important to be aware if you have a static IP or a dynamic IP.

Static Vs Dynamic IP

-A Static IP address means that the address does not change, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will not change the numbers within your IP address.

-A Dynamic IP address changes on a scheduled basis, determined by your ISP. This means that you will have to update and change your NVR settings every time your IP address changes. This can be extremely frustrating and time consuming, which is why LTS offers a free solution.

LTS FREE DDNS.

Having a Static IP can become quite expensive, especially over a long period of time. Some ISP charge double for a static IP opposed to a dynamic IP, which is why LTS offers a FREE DDNS.

-LTS DDNS automatically updates your NVR settings each time your dynamic IP address changes. You can registering a free domain at www.ltsecurityinc.com and inputting the domain into your NVR DDNS settings.

Static Vs Dynamic IP

Static IP. Static IP is provided by your ISP (internet service Provider) and it’s reserved only for you. It will never change.

-Dynamic IP. Dynamic IP address changes on a scheduled basis, determined by your ISP. This means that you will have to update and change your Remote Viewing/ Mobile App settings every time your IP address changes. This can be extremely frustrating and time consuming, which is why LTS offers a free DDNS solution.

There are 4 simple steps users can follow to set up port forwarding:

  1. Assign a local IP to your NVR/DVR.
  2. Input NVR/DVR IP address into Router Port Forwarding settings.
  3. Log onto http://ns1.dvrlists.com/ and set up your FREE DDNS account.
  4. Input DDNS in NVR/DVR DDNS settings.

Once you complete those 4 easy steps your NVR system will allow remote viewing from any location on the globe.

Remote view can be accessed from any IOS or Android mobile device, as well as PC/OSX computers via LTS free App or any device with live internet access.

VMS say hello to Canon

The VMS community welcomed, willingly or not, Canon to the industry last Friday.

Canon didn’t walk into the digital surveillance industry on Friday, they ran, fast!  A day earlier Canon held virtually zero relevance in the VMS market, save for one IP camera they offer. The next morning Canon owned one of the elite VMS brands, Milestone Systems.

Increases in revenue and net worth is nearly a guarantee for the company.

Milestone has always over achieved their reach and influence within the VMS market. Milestone estimate their software has over 100,000 downloads Worldwide, according to IPVM.com.  Milestone was also ranked #3 in the Industry Interest rankings released by IPVM.com

The popularity of their software just hasn’t translated into high profit values.  Most likely due to the low cost of Milestone software, which ranges from Free-$300. A product like digital cameras, which canon obviously provides, has a much higher markup value than the VMS software of Milestone.

By merging Canon equipment to Milestone VMS software, profit margins are sure to skyrocket.   Canon and Milestone essentially provide what the other lacks within the industry. The camera technology of cannon, and the software power of milestone might have a lasting impact on the industry for years to come.   The effects of which we will have to wait to see.

Hopefully being acquired on Friday the 13th isn’t a bad omen for the VMS community.

Choosing Embedded/Server NVR

LTS offers 3 unique NVR choices

  • Server/PC-Based
